Faces of Recovery
Faces of Recovery is an augmented reality (AR) portrait project focused on people in recovery from a substance use disorder. AR, in this project, uses a smartphone to enhance and add meaning to ordinary images.

An example of AR used in an anatomy class.
I'm looking for volunteers in recovery from a substance use disorder to provide stories for this project. We'll work together to identify key experiences from your life before and/or after you initiated recovery. This will be the inspiration for the AR imagery we will create.
My plan is to exhibit the AR portraits in non-profit galleries, recovery community organizations, hospitals, addiction treatment centers, or virtual galleries. This is not a commercial project and nothing will be up for sale. Images and names will be anonymized for your protection.
A video of four portrait prototypes.
Viewers will encounter a set of portraits on a wall, each with a nearby QR code (see the demo below).
When they scan the QR code, their smartphone will become a viewport into the subjective life experience of the person's recovery.
If you are willing to collaborate, email me at bruce@oddballvisual.art. We'll get together to determine if you're a good fit for the project, and if the project is a good fit for you.
Try the AR experience with this demo:
Use your smartphone camera to scan the QR code next to one of the six portraits below, then follow the directions. A smartphone made in the last three years is best. Use the Safari browser on an iPhone -- on Android use either Chrome or Firefox.
